HOW LONG DOES A DIVORCE TAKE?

Under California law, a divorce must take a minimum of 6 months after the opposing party is served with the summons for divorce.   As a practical matter, some divorces are settled before the 6 months and await only a judge’s signature once sufficient time has passed.  Other divorces last longer than 6 months because of litigation.

Usually, we can get initial orders for spousal or child support within six weeks, depending on court availability.
